The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center

Student Action Board

Working as a team, Student Action Board (SAB) participants evaluate community needs, organize service/learning projects, and engage in ways to make a difference. Along the way students learn about their own leadership style, develop effective meeting techniques, and gain experience managing a project.

How to apply:

All students (grades 10-12) are invited to apply. Students who have participated in one of the center’s youth programs (Mayor’s Award, Commissioners’ Award, IMPACT Camp, Civic Engagement Leadership Institute, Model UN Week, and previous SAB Members) are given preference.

Student Testimonials

"I first got involved with TNVLC the summer after I volunteered for the first time. I learned about the Student Action Board and was blown away with the impact that TNVLC has on the Triangle community. Their student programs have helped me build a stronger appreciation for my community and also develop important life skills that have helped me during college, like effective communication and leadership. My involvement with TNVLC has allowed me to be a more effective leader in my community and a more confident individual. I feel like I know my home city much better and am able to identify ways to get involved with the nonprofit scene. I'm forever thankful that the TNVLC exists; without them, I wouldn't be the same person."
Devan Desai, Previous SAB Member & Mayor's Award Recipient
"Through the Student Action Board, I have been able to find inclusive and unique volunteering opportunities that match my strengths and skills. I'm grateful for these programs because they've given me a platform to enhance my leadership skills and serve my community in unique ways. As the most recent President and former Secretary of the Student Action Board (SAB), I've been able to work with incredible team members and advisors to organize service projects and meetings. We value the independence and trust given to us in SAB because we get a chance to work with our community to initiate volunteering opportunities as a team. TNVLC changed my and many others' perspectives on volunteering to perceive it as a valuable few hours where we get the chance to give back to our community. Keeping a selfless outlook toward volunteering truly brings a feeling of satisfaction and gratitude."
Shaina, 22-23 SAB President & IMPACT Camp Alumni
"As a member of SAB, through hands-on volunteer opportunities with many local non-profits, I was to able to gain insight about their missions and contribute to their respective causes. I'm thankful for TNVLC's student programs because through them I have been introduced to many local organizations and gotten an inside view of their operations, as well as being able to interact with new peers; both of which have helped me be able to organize my own club at school."
Jordi, Current SAB member & previous participant in CELI & IMPACT Camps
